Self-Archiving Services

Many publishers have policies and special requirements regarding self-archiving and usage of a text. For TU- affiliated publications the University Library checks the legal requirements for self-archiving.

We need:

  • list of TU-affiliated publications: list of DOIs (Digital Object Identifier)
  • in case a DOI doesn't exist: list of publications in structured format (BibTeX, RIS)
  • accepted manuscript(s) (upon request).

We’ll take care of:

  • checking the legal requirements for self-archiving (Green Open Access)
  • contacting publishers to obtain permissions
  • if applicable, preparing the files and submitting them to the repository DepositOnce

Please note: New extensive lists of publications are currently not accepted due to high demand. In the meantime, we are glad to assist with self-archiving of inividual publications.

Recommendations for Self-Archiving

Self-archiving in a repository generally happens either at the same time as the original publication or after a set delay. For this purpose, TU members may use DepositOnce, TU Berlin’s repository for research data and publications.

Repositories such as DepositOnce ensure that documents are archived for the long term, which is usually not guaranteed when they are posted on personal or institutional websites.

Example Repositories by Discipline:

Physics, mathematics, computer science, biology, finance, and statistics

Medicine, biology, and adjacent fields

Open Access Rights with Alliance and National Licenses

When acquiring subscriptions, the University Library has already reached special agreements with some publishers that include open access rights. In those cases, it is possible to self-archive articles (co-)authored by researchers from our university in the university’s repository. The University Library is gradually making use of this right.
